Emmerson Mnangagwa has today been sworn in as the president of Zimbabwe just days after Robert Mugabe resigned from his position.
The former vice president who is nick named the “Crocodile”, took the oath of office in front of cheering citizens who have been under Mugabe’s rule for over three decades.
The president promised to fight poverty, corruption, re-engage with foreign powers and bring reversal to Mugabe’s policies.
He said that elections scheduled for 2018 would continue as planned.
Mnangagwa is expected to contest in the elections also.
